Why I Exercise

I’ve worked in the health and fitness industry for years and on more than one occasion I’ve had someone ask me why I exercise. Typical follow up questions to this are how do I maintain it and always make time for it? For me, exercise is more than just something to keep my healthy or help me stay in shape. Below are a few reasons why I exercise.

I exercise because I always feel better.

Some days are better than others, but any day I exercise ends up being a good day. There’s just something about exercise that always has me feeling better, my guess is its the endorphin boost! Not only do I feel better mentally after a workout, but I do physically too. My energy levels go way up and I end up being more productive with the rest of my day. I also find that my sleep is better on the days that I exercise.

I exercise because I always look for the opportunity to improve.

If you’ve read any of our blog posts, you’d know that I’m a pretty motivated person and love pushing myself to improve. Exercise for me is such a great way to track improvements. I’m not talking about scale movements or inches. I love focusing on improving my performance whether it be to move faster or lift heavier there is always something to improve.

I exercise because its fun.

There are so many elements to exercise that I find fun. I love the physical aspect, especially challenging myself but I also love the social aspect. In all the gyms I’ve joined and been a member of, I’ve made some really great friends. I never would have met these people had I not been exercising. Having friends at the gym can make me even more motivated to go if I know that they’re there waiting for me! I even met my fiance at the gym where I used to work.

I exercise because my health is one of my top priorities.

Not only am I passionate about my exercise and diet regimen, but I am also extremely passionate about my overall health in general. I want it to be in the best possible shape for the as long as possible. I want to be able to keep up with my son and be a positive role model for him. I want to do everything in my power to ward off cardiovascular, pulmonary and metabolic diseases. I want to be my healthiest possible self.

I exercise because I want too.

This is going to be the most important reason I’m going to share with you. I exercise because its something that I enjoy doing. I don’t exercise because I think I “have” too. People that exercise because they think “have” too typically don’t enjoy their time doing it or make it a long lasting habit. I wake up everyday looking forward to my workout.

I exercise almost daily because I want too. I want to feel better everyday. I want to improve everyday. I enjoy my workouts and I want to be my healthiest possible self. What’s your why? Why do you exercise? Tell us why in the comments below.
