Why I Love My Home Gym

IMG_1839

When we first bought our house, our top priority was setting up and perfecting our home gym. Before debating over paint colors, finding that perfect accent furniture piece, or doing anything else we set up our home gym. Having a home gym has always been a dream of ours. Having a place to workout in the house is amazing.

When people found out about our first big project, most of them said it was a waste of time. We heard a lot of “you’ll never use it” or “you’ll use it for a week”. While I didn’t use it that much at first, I was pregnant with morning sickness that lasted 6 months, I do use it almost daily now and I love it. I honestly couldn’t imagine not having it there. Have you considered investing in a home gym but you’re not totally sure? Take a look below and see why I love my home gym so much.

1. I never have to wait for any equipment to be free

I think one of the worst things in the world is being excited to get to the gym, only to get there and see your favorite piece of equipment being used. It almost puts a damper on your whole workout. One of my favorite things about having a gym in our home is never having to wait for any of the equipment to be free. I can use what I want when I want. I can use it for however long I want without worrying about ruining someone else’s workout.

2. I put no effort into how I look

If you go to a commercial gym during peak hours, lets say anywhere from either 8:00-10:00AM or 4:30-8:00PM there are a lot of women there who match their entire outfit. I’m not saying its a bad thing, I just do not know how its possible to physically match your socks, to sports bra, to tank top color, to hair tie color etc. I’m lucky if I can find a pair of matching socks. If you are someone who is really self conscious, you may be intimated by what you see at the gym and how you look in comparison. I love my home gym because it doesn’t matter how I look, all that I’m focusing on is having a good have workout.

3. Its available to me 24/7

If you are from the northeast, like we are, you know that the winters can be brutal and with road closures and a lot of snow its not always possible to make it to the gym. I never have to worry about not being able to walk downstairs due to snow, rain, hail, etc. its there. I also don’t have to worry about not getting a workout in due to a holiday.

4. I have no reason to make excuses

Recently becoming a mom and constantly going to the gym to get in workouts wasn’t exactly feasible. Knowing that I had a gym downstairs waiting for me was so key in postpartum fitness journey. I was able to go downstairs and accomplish what I needed to for the day. I could do this while my son was sleeping (which we got lucky and he is still a great napper – on most days anyway). It can be really easy to talk yourself into not going to the gym, having a gym in your house can really help keep you on track.

Are you still on the fence about building yourself a home gym? Start slow and don’t think you need to only buy brand new fancy equipment. You would be amazed at what you can find at garage or rummage sales!

Love to have one myself. Always a bit nervous when you see all the fit people pumping their muscles and I’m slowly pumping with my belly.

A home gym is the perfect gym for me. The only problem is that sometimes I don’t feel as motivated as home as I would feel at an actually gym.

I just moved into my first ever home – and the first thing I bought = an ELLIPTICAL TRAINER, lol! My husband and I got some free weights (for our apartment’s “gym”) and brought those with us, so we have a little something something, but we are totally going to build on this… Or he may get a gym membership because he wants to “beef up” – ha! I definitely want to lift weights too so I may join him but I love that I have my cardio at my fingertips and can do it whenever I damn well please!

LOL! It is so convenient when you are able to exercise whenever you want and not have to worry about driving anywhere!

A home gym sounds awesome. I have my own treadmill and do agree, it’s nice that I don’t have to wait for any machines. Also I don’t ever have to put effort into how I look! I had not thought of that Lol.

I bet having a home gym is awesome, I’m not keen on having people around while I work out so it would be the perfect idea for me if only we had the room.

You can store dumbbells in a closet and use them wherever!

  14. Julie Anna Neal June 23, 2018 Reply

I think the one big thing for me about working out at home would be that I don’t feel judged. There are times where I feel bloated or like I’m not doing something as good as the person next to me and it totally throws me off at a public gym.

It is definitely easy for the mind to have your own place to workout!

We acquired most of our equipment secondhand. There are plenty of workouts you can do that just require a pair of dumbbells.
