I’ve worked in the health and fitness industry for years and on more than one occasion I’ve had someone ask me why I exercise. Typical follow up questions to this are how do I maintain it and always make time for it? For me, exercise is more than just something to keep my healthy or help me stay in shape. Below are a few reasons why I exercise.
I exercise because I always feel better.
Some days are better than others, but any day I exercise ends up being a good day. There’s just something about exercise that always has me feeling better, my guess is its the endorphin boost! Not only do I feel better mentally after a workout, but I do physically too. My energy levels go way up and I end up being more productive with the rest of my day. I also find that my sleep is better on the days that I exercise.
I exercise because I always look for the opportunity to improve.
If you’ve read any of our blog posts, you’d know that I’m a pretty motivated person and love pushing myself to improve. Exercise for me is such a great way to track improvements. I’m not talking about scale movements or inches. I love focusing on improving my performance whether it be to move faster or lift heavier there is always something to improve.
I exercise because its fun.
There are so many elements to exercise that I find fun. I love the physical aspect, especially challenging myself but I also love the social aspect. In all the gyms I’ve joined and been a member of, I’ve made some really great friends. I never would have met these people had I not been exercising. Having friends at the gym can make me even more motivated to go if I know that they’re there waiting for me! I even met my fiance at the gym where I used to work.
I exercise because my health is one of my top priorities.
Not only am I passionate about my exercise and diet regimen, but I am also extremely passionate about my overall health in general. I want it to be in the best possible shape for the as long as possible. I want to be able to keep up with my son and be a positive role model for him. I want to do everything in my power to ward off cardiovascular, pulmonary and metabolic diseases. I want to be my healthiest possible self.
I exercise because I want too.
This is going to be the most important reason I’m going to share with you. I exercise because its something that I enjoy doing. I don’t exercise because I think I “have” too. People that exercise because they think “have” too typically don’t enjoy their time doing it or make it a long lasting habit. I wake up everyday looking forward to my workout.
I exercise almost daily because I want too. I want to feel better everyday. I want to improve everyday. I enjoy my workouts and I want to be my healthiest possible self. What’s your why? Why do you exercise? Tell us why in the comments below.
I exercise so I can fit into my pants. Sometimes I don’t mind it, but for the most part, I hate it and am angry that my metabolism is dying on me and I have to do it.
LOL! That is another great reason to exercise!
I’ve had my gym membership for awhile, but never use it. This was really motivating!
Awesome, I hope you start to use it in the near future!
I am one of those people who workout because they have to. I’d love to start learning how to actually love working out instead of feeling like it’s a drudgery.
It’s all in your mindset, once you switch your mental approach to exercise you will start to enjoy it more!
There are so many great reasons personally and health wise for working out! Thank you for sharing!
You’re welcome!
I think the “Why” is so important. When people lose that, they seem to lose their motivation. Why shouldn’t be external, the key is to internalize it as you have done.
I completely agree with you!
It is wonderful that you exercise. It i something I don’t find time to do. But maybe running after a 2 year old is also exercise 🙂
LOL yes running after a 2 year old is definitely exercise!
I wish I was more motivated to exercise! It’s so true that it makes you feel better afterwards though. It’s great that you love exercising so much 🙂
Thank you!
Wow, these are seriously all the reasons why I love exercising. I mean it’s your health, your body. It will surely thank you when you are older for nurturing it and taking care of it.
I completely agree!
Like the simplicity of your thoughts in putting it down. The subheads are almost like affirmations. Will try and remember.
Thank you!
I tried to exercise but it only lasted a month. It was my mom who persuaded me to do so. I guess it didn’t last long because I didn’t have motivation and goal to keep me going.
Try again, and find some kind of exercise you enjoy and start to stick with it.
I love working out! I do it first thing in the am and it really helps me start my day right! Something about it helps me physically as well as mentally. Great post!
I love early am workouts! Thanks!
Yes it is, health is wealth. Exercise don’t need to be a task. We must enjoy it so it’ll become part of us naturally. 😊
Agreed!
I do like exercising too
I do find it enjoyable for maintaining good and healthy body and mind
thank you for sharing your words
Thanks!
That’s wonderful that you like to exercise. It is for having a good health and good lifestyle. And exercise makes us feel younger.
Thank you & agreed!
I’m definitely trying to make exercise a priority for me this year. I don’t always find exercise fun, but I’m trying to find exercises that I enjoy doing, like rock climbing, so I can really stick to it! 🙂

Great post. Everyone needs motivation to workout. Good for you for sharing yours!
Thank you!
There is nothing that makes me feel better like a good work out. My endorphins get me pumped up!
Agreed!
All of those are good reasons. And it’s so important to know the why you do of things. I do it because I want to be healthy for my daughter. And I do it because it makes me feel good and gives me the energy to do other things more often.
Awesome, setting an example for our kids is so essential!
