Stay On Track: The Weekend Edition

Staying on track over the weekend is crucial to achieving your health and fitness goals. I know so many people who are weekend bingers and people who think calories on the weekend don’t count. Those same people are often the ones who complain about their lack of progress. While it is okay to splurge every now and then, splurging all weekend every weekend will really hinder your results! Read on to see what we do to stay on track over the weekend.

1. We stock our with healthy foods.

We recently switched our food shopping day from Sunday to Thursday. Food shopping on Thursday ensures that our fridge will be stocked with all the healthy foods we need to get us through the weekend. Not only do we keep our fridge stocked, but we have all of our food pre-prepped and portioned out. When we’re this prepared we have no excuse to not stay on track.

2. We make our takeout.

We’re always making healthier versions of our favorite takeout treats. We’ve previously made a Macro-Friendly Fried Rice and a Macro-Friendly Chicken and Balsamic wrap with mozzarella cheese. Both of those are currently posted to our site, if you haven’t done so yet feel free to check them out and maybe even make them this weekend! (If you do try them out, comment below and let us know what you thought!)

We’ve both been talking about how we really want some pizza! This weekend we will be making a Macro-Friendly pizza (don’t worry there is absolutely no cauliflower involved). To make our pizza we will be using whole wheat pita bread, part-skim low moisture mozzarella cheese and a low sodium sauce. Stay tuned for the recipe, we will be posting it on Sunday.

3. We take advantage of the nice weather.

After a week of horrible, rainy and snowy (yes Snowy – WTF NJ) weather we are going to be outside and active as much as possible. We both typically like to take our rest days on Sunday, so it really is the perfect day to go for a nice long recovery walk! If I get my way, we’ll walk about three miles or so.

We also take advantage of our location to walk to some of the places where we need to go to run errands. We will typically walk to the bank, pharmacy, and the library. One of our main goals is to be as active as possible every weekend and try not to spend the whole time sitting on the couch watching TV.

Staying on track over the weekend can definitely be challenging! Spend a few minutes today thinking about what you could be doing to better stay on track this weekend. Comment below or contact us if you need help brainstorming ways to stay strong over the weekend and keep working towards your goals.

What do you do to help stay on track over the weekend? We love hearing what other people do to stay strong. Comment below and let us know what you do!

I will always walk if the place is less than a mile away. Exercise and errands are always great together.

Glad you agree, walking and errands go so smoothly together!

Great tips! I must admit, I don’t keep track of what I’m eating on the weekends. I always go outside and stay active though…maybe I’ll get points for that 🙂 . Thanks for posting these helpful tips though! I love them!

Thank you – I’m glad you liked reading them! It is hard to stay on track during the weekend for sure – but when you plan it out it becomes easier and easier!

The weekend is the hardest. Desserts and chips everywhere you go…… I eat a big brunch before going out or meet friends so I’ll stay full and resist the temptations! I guess keep lots of good food at home is the most important!!

I know, everywhere you go there is all of this food! Always stock you fridge with the healthy essentials 🙂

that take out is such my downfall! I love getting an app and those rich sauces are always so yummy. I ask for all sauces to be on the side – this way I can apply less than they would to my dish

    • admin April 20, 2018 Reply

that’s such a good tactic! If I order something I always ask for things to be on the side!

These are great tips. I definitely think it’s harder to stay on track on the weekends (starting on Friday nights!)

(By the way, might want to re-read your first bullet point for clarity!)

Here’s a post for you to check out for something fun to do when it’s nice out. Bet you could find something similar in your area.

I love the idea of stocking our healthy eats on Thursday! That makes perfect sense! I do try to plan my meals, but weekends are usually where I would ignore my plan. Changing shopping dates may be the tip I needed! Thanks!

I’m glad! Food shopping Thursday has really made all the difference for us 🙂

I’m probably like most people in thinking that I get a pass to eat unhealthy foods once the weekend hits. It might be time to change that trend of thought!

eating healthy, eating in, eating home – made, and walking as much as we can – those are what we currently do

      Awesome, keep it up!

My biggest struggle is when we have to be away from home at meal times. It seems that everything is so laden with fat and sugar at restaurants. Even the supposedly healthy items!

    • admin April 22, 2018 Reply

I agree! In those situations I do my best to create my own dish – by asking for a plain piece of chicken with vegetables. The wait staff is always accommodating.

I’ve never thought to make our takeout. The kids love cheeseburgers and I”m certain I could make them healthier. Thank you for all of these helpful tips.

We always make our own burgers from home! It’s a way to have fun in the kitchen trying out new recipes and stay healthy as well!

I am so happy the weather is getting better. I also make sure I shop during the weekday verses the weekend because it will get chaotic especially in my city.

Lately I have been eating a lot of fruits and vegetables. Indeed weekends can be tricky though, especially when you want to go out for dinner with your friends.

    • admin April 23, 2018 Reply

It definitely gets tricky when you go out with friends, if you’ve been on point all day its okay to splurge a little at dinner!

  20. David Elliott April 23, 2018 Reply

I really need to think more about making my takeout food. Just some things I love to eat and that have minor calories in them I will enjoy. Even if it’s a little over, as long as I am enjoying it, it’s good.

    • admin April 23, 2018 Reply

We love making our takeout, there’s always ways to make your favorite treats healthy!
