A new year, a new decade and those same old diet fads that never seem to go anywhere no matter how many times they’ve been debunked.
It’s a time for a fresh start and some new year’s resolutions. If you’re like most people, I’m guessing that your resolutions have something to do with either losing weight or being healthier. Whether you’re a newbie to this or you’ve been at this for a while, I think we can all agree that the world of health and fitness is over-satured with information, diets, products, advice and so-called experts. I’m hopefully going to help clear the air so you don’t fall victim to some of the most common diet fads as you begin or continue your journey!
- Cleanses / Detox Teas/Drinks / Skinny Wraps / Fat Burners
I mean this in the nicest way possible when I say, stop wasting your money on these BS products & services! I have seen people spend anywhere from a few hundred to almost a thousand dollars on these products and not get the results they want! They end up back at square one after investing all of that time and money.
It is so common for so many people to fall victim to this because the marketing ploys are so well thought out promising anything from a pound a day loss, to being able to eat what you want as long as you drink the cleanse or detox tea. Maybe you have even tried some of these products and seen a quick weight loss but then have gained it all back and then some. Instead of continuously wasting time and money on these products take a small chunk of that and invest in a trainer or coach [ like me! 😊 ] to help you get to your goals in a more sustainable, realistic fashion.
2. Apple Cider Vinegar / Celery Juice
Apple cider vinegar was definitely more of a trend earlier in the decade but I’ve seen celery juice all over Instagram lately. You can absolutely drink these beverages before meals, take shots of them first thing in the morning, or do a rain dance while drinking them. Maybe drinking them before meals causes you to lose your appetite because they taste so bad, but unfortunately, whatever method you choose of consuming them will not be that detoxing / weight loss kick starting effect you were looking for.
3. Intermittent Fasting
This one may not be as bad as the previous two, but there is a lot of hype going around about it right now. If only being able to eat in an 8 hour window truly helps you stay committed to your diet / calorie deficit then more power to you. However, if you use your eating window to overeat, binge, eat junk food, etc., then this is not the best method for you. A lot of things about this style of eating tend to be misunderstood, one of the main ones being that you can eat whatever you want in the “eating” window.
If this is a style of eating that you really want to pursue, I encourage you to do your own research before throwing yourself into it. Do your own research so you can really tell whether or not this is the right fit for you. Do your research from a credible source, don’t just look at what the latest “fitness influencer” has to say because they’ll probably want you to buy their detox tea and intermittent fasting guide. If you are unsure of where to start your research please don’t hesitate to ask in the comments or message me directly, I would love to help point you in the right direction.
4.Carbs
You do not need to cut out carbs to lose weight. You do not need to stop eating carbs all together to lose weight. You can eat carbs and lose weight all at the same time. I am going to say this again in case you are sitting here in disbelief. You CAN eat carbs and lose weight all at the same time. I love carbs, and I’m sure you do too! Would you believe that I actually got into the best shape I’ve ever been in by eating carbs?!
Will cutting out carbs resort in some short term very quick weight loss? Yes, absolutely, but it is likely water weight that you are losing and once you add those carbs back in your weight will most likely climb back up to where it was.
If your New Year’s resolution is to get in shape, lose weight, exercise more, eat healthy good for you – taking the steps to get started is hard and I’m proud of you! But please be wary of some of these really common fads, marketing ploys and influencers. I want you to be as successful as possible.
Until next time,
Ally
