I don’t know about you, but every time a new month rolls around I get excited about the endless possibilities it brings with it. Whenever a new month starts, I usually spend the first of the month going over what I did last month to work towards my goals. I’m going to share this process with you in case there is something that you’re working towards as well.
Get a pen and paper ready and start asking yourself these questions!
What did I do last month that worked well?
I always like to start with the positives. I typically make a list of five to ten things I did that worked well for me last month. Once I have my list, I start to write down why they worked well for me. I feel like it is really important to track what works well and why it works so well so you can keep repeating this habit going forward.
What did I not do well?
Just as important as it is to highlight the positives, you also need to take a few minutes to identify the negatives. I always make a list of what I did not do well. Were there days that I should have put more effort in than I did? Were there days where I slacked off and forgot my end goal? Did I do anything to inhibit my progress? These are all important questions to ask yourself. If you truly do want to achieve your goal, work towards you goal, or make progress its important to identify what didn’t work so you don’t keep wasting your effort in those areas.
Where can I improve?
Writing down a list in all the areas that I think I can improve is typically my longest list. I am of the belief that there is absolutely always room for improvement. Everyday, I try do something that makes me better than I was the day before. I am constantly looking to improve and if you are trying to be successful or achieve your goal than you should be too.
What will I do differently this month?
Based off the lists that I made yesterday, I can honestly say that this coming month I will be doing almost everything completely different than what I did last month. There were several things last month that I could have absolutely done better and I’ve identified them. Instead of focusing on the what ifs, what if I had done this differently last month would I be further along etc. I focus on moving forward, learning from everything and continuing to progress.
Whether your goals are health and fitness related or not, if you truly are working towards something its important to ask yourself these questions occasionally. Working towards our goals is always a work in progress, and adjustments should be made and mistakes should be learned from in order to keep progressing and moving forward.
