6 Easy Ways to be Healthier Today

exercise

One of the most common questions we get from people is how to get started on their health and fitness goals. Instead of going into a big elaborate explanation, we are going to talk about the easiest ways that you can start to make progress towards your goals today. Will you do any of these to start being healthier today?

1. Drink More Water

I’ll give you your morning coffee / tea, but after that focus the rest of your day on water. There are so many empty calories consumed during the day via juices, sodas, and other beverages. Challenge yourself and really focus on drinking more water throughout the day. Most people don’t drink enough water, and one of the easiest ways to focus on being healthier is to drink more water. Water has several health benefits such as helping our digestive systems and reducing the likelihood that we’ll get headaches. Challenge yourself today, and drink more water!

2. Eat a Vegetable with Each Meal

Everyone should eat more vegetables. Eating a vegetable with each meal will help you develop healthy eating habits along with helping you stay more full until your next meal! Incorporating a vegetable with each meal is another really easy way to focus on being healthier. Challenge yourself, try to eat a serving of vegetables with the rest of your meals today. I love incorporating vegetables into all my meals because it helps give my meals more color. I also never get bored since I try to eat a different vegetable with each meal.

3. Skip the Condiments

Calories from condiments throughout the day really start to add up and so do the carbs that come with it! For example, one tablespoon of ketchup tacks on about 20 calories and 5g of carbs. Do you know anyone that uses exactly one tablespoon? Most people probably have 2-3 tablespoons per meal or even more! If skipping condiments is something you can’t imagine doing, try tracking the condiments to make sure you stay within the appropriate serving size.

4. Take a Walk

Take a walk every single day. Take a walk today. Everyone should make the time to take a walk during the day. Walking has so many health benefits such as helping with weight management, good for our hearts, and good for our bones! Walking can also be such a great stress reliever. It can be a great way to take a mental break. Make the time during the day to take a walk, even if its for just 10 minutes. It can be a great way to get the whole family outside for some fun and light exercise.

5. Unplug.

Take a break from your cell phone, tablet and television. Unplugging is probably one of the easiest things on the list to do to be healthier. The constant screen time does us so much more harm than it does good. Technology can be so addictive, bad for our mental health and the constant screen staring can be so bad for our eyes. Having too much screen time before bed can even cause sleeping problems. Can you challenge yourself to unplug from some of your technology today? We try to stay away from technology for at least one hour before we go to bed, can you do the same?

6. Go to sleep earlier.

Sleep is one of the most important elements to our health and wellbeing. I do my best to get at least seven to eight solid hours every night. Most nights during the week, I’m usually in bed by 8:30PM and asleep by 9. Sleep deprivation can cause our stress levels to rise and our moods to plummet. Getting enough sleep is essential for helping us stay sharp throughout the day, helping us make better food choices and help reduce our risk of some serious health conditions. Getting enough sleep is another easy way to start being healthier today. Will you try to get more sleep today?
